Why Katie Hopkins’ “Three Simple Questions” Are None Of Those Things.
When a person — or, failing that, Katie Hopkins — talks about “simple questions,” what they really mean is “a simple question with a simple answer.” These usually fall into yes/no, left/right, hot/cold territories.
“Is it raining out?” or “Would you like a drink?” are good examples of these, and it isn’t, but I would.
“Why didn’t YOU stop 9/11?!” meanwhile is, on the face of it, a simple question. But the answers, whilst valid, are many and complicated.
Katie Hopkins knows this, but as always, she’s arguing in bad faith when she released a video asking “Three Simple Questions” of Black Lives Matter protestors. I’m not linking to the video because there’s nothing she hates more than being ignored. Except minorities.
Nonetheless, let’s attempt to answer Katie’s “three”, “simple”, “questions.”
- “Why is it that black lives matter more when a white person is involved?” What about black-on-black crime?
It’s useful here to understand the concept of a Straw Man Argument. The premise of this is that you build a man out of straw, knock him down very easily, and then say “Well, I kicked HIS ass.”
You might have done, but only because it was your own deliberately flimsy invention.
Contrary to what Katie Hopkins says, nobody at any of the Black Lives Matter protests is saying that black people killing black people isn’t a problem…
